Most of the users are now using high-speed internet from various Telecom Operators like MTNL, BSNL, Airtel and 3G dongle also. But sometimes they all feel problems in surfing. I am using MTNL Broadband in my home and for the past few weeks observing browsing problems in the internet. It is not that MTNL is not providing the opted broadband speed, I can download files at faster speeds but it is the problem with browsing of websites. This is how DNS works and yes DNS does affect the browsing speed, because if your current DNS service takes hell lot of time to resolve the domain name and get the website server IP address then you will feel that your Broadband connection is working slow. But it is not the problem of Internet speed, try to use others Open source DNS service like Google Public DNS to see the change.

To change your DNS setting to Google DNS setting for better and increased browsing speed just follow the guide below.

1 Go to Navigate and Sharing center and navigate to the connection that you are using. Right Click on connection and click on the properties menu.

2 Click on IPv4 or IPv6 (depends on the internet protocol you are using), and visit the properties to set the current DNS to Google Public DNS

3 Click the Radio button with ‘Use the following DNS server addresses’ and set the following DNS server settings:

For IPv4

  • Preferred DNS Server – 8.8.8.8
  • Alternate DNS Server – 8.8.4.4

For IPv6

  • Preferred DNS Server – 2001:4860:4860::8888
  • Alternate DNS Server – 2001:4860:4860::8844

You can use either number as your primary or secondary DNS server. You can specify both numbers, but do not specify one number as both primary and secondary. You can configure Google Public DNS addresses for either IPv4 or IPv6 connections, or both.

That’s all and you are set to enjoy increased browsing speed on your existing Broadband Internet Connection.

Verdict: I am using Google Public DNS and it is working perfect for me, earlier I used to get error while visiting lots of websites and have to refresh the webpage multiple times to visit the website but since I have shifted to Google Public DNS I haven’t observed any issues at all.
