Suresh Prabhu, Railway Minister of India recently announced the launch of R-Mitra App to ensure women’s safety. The App is introduced by the Eastern Railways that is capable of sending instant alerts to the nearest Inspector(Railway Protection Force) and as well as to the Divisional Security Control Room (DSCR). The best feature of the App is that it also helps in identification of victim as well location of the mobile.
R-MITRA also known as Railway Mobile Instant Tracking Response and Assistance (R-MITRA) is an inhouse project of Eastern Railways India. On the launch of R-MITRA, Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu told:
“Around 2.7 crore to 3 crore people travel in the Indian Railways system on a day-to-day basis. Different types of crimes are committed by anti-social elements. It is a big challenge to deal with crime in railway properties”
Commenting on the working of the App, ER General Manager R.K Gupta said:
“As soon as a female commuter in any kind of distress presses the emergency button on the app, her identification and her location will be immediately sent to the nearest RPF inspector and the DSCR who can then immediately take adequate response,”
Some of the features of R-MITRA App are as follows:
- Easy to access and simple navigation
- Currently available only for passengers of suburban trains services on Eastern Railway
- Can be used to send photos of the assaulter
- Facility to communicate with the railway authorities through messages or call
- Works both online and offline
- Currently available for Android platform
